ALONE AT THE TOP                                                                                                                                                                                                    Dedicated to Scott Lander                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        I felt it that night when I saw a light  as bright as a golden sun                                                                                                                                In the blink of an eye I was hanging surfside with you when we were young                                                                                                                What brought me here to the glory years just as the time winds down?                                                                                                                      Why replay the sights or reignite the flame of a past burned out?                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        Then I heard I’m not there today but you know what I’d say                                                                                                                                      Meet at sunlight at the top of the rocks, meet at midnight at the end of the dock                                                                                                      We can fly with the eagles & soar with the hawks, no one will find us, away from the flock                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      Watch every sun go down, watch every clock hand stop                                                                                                                                            In the eyes of the mountain side, I’ll see you at the top                                                                                                                                            Feel every warm breeze blow, catch every flake of new snow                                                                                                                                     Over fields where sunrise is high, we’ll sow our seeds for crops                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              I heard come here, whispered in my ear, but never felt a breath                                                                                                                                I followed along in a dreamy fog, a warm hand found my chest                                                                                                                                I turned around, where I found a face I knew as home                                                                                                                                              My brother in arms, all old scars gone, all spirit …….no bones                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          Then he said I wish I was with you today, I’d relive every day & I'd say                                                                                                                     Meet at the beach near the streams wide mouth, meet me for drinks during a hot summer's drought                                                                          We’ll live in the wild, still tear up the town, keep our secrets in & the scoundrels out                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                Watch every sun go down, watch every clock hand stop                                                                                                                                            In the eyes of the mountain side, we’ll sit alone on top                                                                                                                                              Feel every warm breeze blow, catch every flake of new snow                                                                                                                                                           Over peaks where the sun is hot, we’ll sit alone at the top

VIOLINS

I wake to a sound unfamiliar to me
The sway of the trees in a warm spring breeze
Screens on the windows, fish in the streams
Winding dirt paths lead down to the seas
But it must come to an end
The world waits for me
Strange, violent noises - People faking poses - Worn out faded roses
All run amuck with greed

Every now and again - it ends in reinvention
Most hope with intention, but it's not always the way
Earth spins round again - someone failed to mention
The strict attention that must be paid to today

It leads a man to think.........

The world should hear more violins - more orchestra pieces
We all need less violence- more who know what peace is
Like the sounds you hear in springtime - all the things our parents teach us
Brings it back to just one thing

The world needs more violins

I walk the streets the world paved for me
Grateful for the peace and serenity
I am finally able to achieve
But the worlds not with me, they're not happy
It all must come to an end
Or say goodbye to society

Every now and again - I play back yesterday
Not the terrible days, the one's that made me think
About mistakes I made - a love that failed to take
Every motion that I made brought me here today

It always stop and think.........

The world should hear more violins - more orchestra pieces
We all need less violence - more who know what peace is
Like the sounds you hear in springtime - all the things our parents teach us
Brings it back to just one thing
The world needs more violins

THE WORLD IS SMARTER THAN YOU

You have it all figured out; yeah you got this now
It's something you tell yourself, you'll never say what's true
The World Is Smarter Than You

Until you are 22; yeah, with all that you've been through
You've heard all the crowd cheers and boos
Stayed out late, drank a shit ton of booze; kept your nose clean too
The World Is Smarter Than You

Until you are 33, yeah, life's no mystery dude
You finally made some money; shacked up with a honey; maybe had a family too
Or watched it all fall through.......still it's true
The World Is Smarter Than You

Until you are 44, had an ex love and lots more
Tired of kicking open doors; added a few more greys for sure
Is life still in front or is it all just behind you
The World Is Smarter Than You

Until you are 55, and you've started to realize
What to call a prize and how to do it all right
But all you've been through; oh how you've been screwed
All snatched from your view, had it all in front of you with a view
The World Is Smarter Than You

Until you are 66, rocking in a chair, watching your kids kids
You often look back to the way you chose to live
What's left to do?  Still nothing to learn new?
The World Is Smarter Than You

Until you are 77, or whether you're 11, is The World Still Smarter Than You?
Whether you hold a dark death wish or a fast pass to heaven
The world's got a step on you
Love as you go, set goals to learn & grow
At the end you will know
